Voice Recognition Technology for Gamers
Voice recognition technology is no longer a farfetched scenario you only find a science fiction movie. It has become more widespread over the years and has a number of uses from medical transcriptions to customer service systems. For video game fanatics, voice recognition technology is getting even closer to home with the upcoming release of the highly anticipated Tom Clancy's End War.
Gaming with Voice Recognition Technology
Early this year, Fonix Speech Inc, a subsidiary of Fonix Corporation, announced that the popular video game series from Ubisoft would feature the company's proprietary voice recognition technology. Coined as VoiceIn, it is said to be a major element of the game's highly regarded voice command interface. Voice recognition technology is a perfect fit for Ubisoft, who is a world renown publisher of interactive products including hundreds of console and computer-based video games.
Fonix Speech Inc.'s voice recognition technology will be utilized in numerous versions of Tom Clancy's End War video game. This includes variations for the Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and PC platforms as well. The game will first be launched in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German, with versions for Japanese and other languages scheduled for later releases.
Groundbreaking Voice Recognition Technology Advancements
Voice recognition technology in Tom Clancy's End War is certainly groundbreaking and a treat for the video game community. One reason is the fact that the voice command feature is said to work just as well on consoles such as the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as it does on the PC platform, something that voice-enabled video games consistently failed to deliver in the past.
According to early reviews from many popular games sites, the voice recognition technology in Ubisoft's upcoming game is unparalleled, a drastic improvement over sports games and various genres that attempted to master voice control features. In Tom Clancy's End War, you can initiate attacks, switch your vantage point and much more simply by speaking.
Ubisoft says that it chose Fonix Inc. because of its clean user interface, low processing requirements and most of all, cross-platform availability. This gave the game publisher the tools needed to offer voice recognition technology to a broad spectrum of users. According to Vincent Greco, Ubisoft Global Technical Coordinator, End War's voice recognition interface dramatically enhances the gamer's experience by allowing them to effectively execute commands and feel as if they are immersed in the action.
For some time now, the video game industry has been looking for innovative ways to enhance game play and commands, seeking to stimulate consumers while increasing the market share. With voice recognition technology by Fonix Speech Inc., publishers can now add value to their products as developers are able to capitalize off this new cross-platform voice command capability.
Aside from Fonix's voice recognition technology for the popular Ubisoft title, the company offers solutions for other games on the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3, PC and Mac platforms.
As of now, Tom Clancy's End War is slated for a North American release date of November 4, 2008 while the title is scheduled to launch in Europe on November 7.
